How To Enroll

The Texas Permanency Outcomes Project

The Child Welfare Academy’s certificate tracks and courses are open to all professionals working in child welfare and child protection services. Participants can take individual courses from the prerequisite and certificate tracks or enroll in a certificate track by following these steps:

Step 1: Take our available online courses.

These courses are free and open to any child welfare professional in Texas. Each course is 1 hour long. Participants can receive 1 CEU for every course they complete. We encourage people to take these courses to help them decide if a certificate program is right for them. You can enroll in the Academy courses here.

When you enroll on Thinkific, you will be given access to all available courses. You can take as many of the courses as you want, at your own pace. If you enjoyed the courses, consider completing a certificate program!

Step 2: Attend in-person trainings.

You can check out our 2023 schedule and register for our trainings. At this time, in-person courses are only offered in Regions 2, 6, and 11. Child welfare professionals who live outside of these regions must travel to attend in-person courses. On Day 1 of in-person trainings we will offer our Foundations courses and on Day 2 we will be providing courses for the certificates.

Step 3: Obtain a Steve Hicks School of Social Work Certificate.

All courses from the pre-requisite and certificate tracks will be available to participants without enrolling in a certificate program. Professionals may complete individual courses in the foundational and certificate tracks but we are encouraging everyone to complete a full certificate option. If you choose to obtain a certificate from the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, we will have you complete a verification of completion form and then you will receive the certificate.

If you have any questions about the Academy, please reach out to the Child Welfare Academy Coordinator Cassandra Mendoza at cassandra.mendoza@austin.utexas.edu.
